Frogs, toads, newts and salamanders are amphibians. Most amphibians are small animals with soft, smooth skin. They can live on land as well as in water and are found near ponds, streams and lakes amphibians usually breed in water.
The cane toad is a pest. it was introduced to Australia in the 1930s to eat beetles. Unfortunately it also began to eat other frogs, lizards and birds living in the area.
There are more than 3,500 different kinds of amphibians the largest is the Japanese Giant salamander which is more than 1.5 m long newts are very like salamander but in general they spend more of their lives in water.
frogs and toads make up the biggest group of amphibians. The poison Arrow frog lives in rainforest of South America. its poisonous skin helps to protect it from enemies.
